New Generals is a local Copenhagen kids brand that is dedicated to keeping it ethical and cool! My little has and will be rocking these “ethicool” threads this season and those come…

January in Copenhagen brings quite a bit of cold rainy weather and yucky colds, so my Little and I have already had our fair share of cozy cuddly sick days on the couch watching movies. Now movie watching with a 20 month old doesn’t leave you with a lot of film options (most of her faves leave me spinning with Baby Einstein jingles in my head while trying desperately to fall asleep), but lately we have found a mutual favorite (I have even watched it 3 times over and STILL enjoy every second) that we both can see together…wait for it…Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue . Now I’m not a huge fan of the whole Disney princess craze with little girls, and will try my hardest (and probably fail miserably) to discourage her from that obsession, but I am absolutely fine with her trading in the pink princess frills for magical fairy dust!
My Little and I have already started ours.

If you know me, then you know my fondness for fairies and their tiny magical ways…it’s even inspired a few collections. It’s not that I’m some dungeons and dragon gamer or one of those fairy figurine collectors by any means, but I do love the idea of “believing” in the magical unknown as we did as kids, and not to mention their sparkly dust…Truth be told, everytime I put on something sequined I secretly feel a little fairy-like! Okay so now to the point…after watching my daughter’s favorite fairy for the last week I thought I should share my favorite fairy story with you…The Case of the Cottingley Fairies
In 1917 in Cottingley, England, two young cousins named Elsie Wright (16) and Frances Griffiths (10) borrowed Elsie’s father’s camera to take pictures of their fairy friends they had met while playing by the stream down from the Wright’s home. After Frances sent a photo (becoming the famous photo that started the story that lasted almost 6 decades) to a friend in South Africa words began to spread. Long story short, these photos caught the attention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, and writer for The Strand Magazine. After much correspondence with the Wright Family, a story on the fairy photos were published and so began the legend of the Cottingley fairies. There were some believers, yet many skeptics, but even professionals could not prove the photos fake. Some 60 years later, the girls, now grandmothers, finally admitted the first 4 photos were fake (images they had cutout from a popular children’s book), but still to this day Frances Griffith stands by the authenticity of the fifth…a real photo of her fairy friends! What do you think? I must believe…

The real deal…

The letter from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to Elsie Wright:
June 30
Dear Miss Elsie Wright
I have seen the wonderful pictures of the fairies which you and your cousin Frances have taken, and I have not been so interested for a long time. I will send you tomorrow one of my little books for I am sure you are not too old to enjoy adventures. I am going to Australia soon, but I only wish before I go that I could get to Bradford and have half an hours chat with you, for I should like to hear all about it. With best wishes
Yours sincerely
Arthur Conan Doyle
Mr Gardner told me about it.

This post is dedicated my Fairy Godmother, Linda Simpson…sending you lots of love and magic from here! xx
I want to wear this and eat a cupcake.
